Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.
Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking.
Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice.
And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
~ Steve Jobs ~

i don't know much about Steve Jobs, no matter how famous he was, so i won't comment on his words.
ReplyDeletebut the poster above is a dangerous, manipulative pack of misinformation.
i hardly come accross something in your website that outrages me that much :)))
don't worry, i have a hypotension, so when i am mad at something i feel a bit better :))
jokes aside, the expressions and notions on that poster have nothing to do with each other, but their juxtaposition suggests the opposite.
like... 'if you go to work and send your kids to school1, etc. etc, you end up 'stupid', 'in fear', and 'not free'. this is just a lie, OR i am reading it wrong.
:)
i guess conforming stupid rules, following the consumerist (?) mob does no good to anyone, but having a job, raising you kids appropriately is a completely different issue.
this poster truly is a lie - at least the way i read it.
:)
The poster is indeed a collection of dangerous, manipulative stuff but it's a fairly accurate representation of how "the powers that be" would like us to conduct ourselves. The perfect citizen seems to be one who mindlessly and uncritically consumes, who does as he/she is told and is beaten into an amusement-fed haze of daily mediocrity which is just enough to keep half asleep so the enormity of their wretched situation won't be noticed.
DeleteWe do have options, but they require us to be observant, mindful and coherent in our protests.
again, agree :)
ReplyDeletethat's why we have to be aware of the nature of the job we are doing, the purpose of the school our kids are attending, the type of food we are eating.
everything matters.
for example... some 20 years ago i did a small translation job to a tobacco company. i don't think i would be able to do the same job today.
still, i am strongly convinced that one does have have a job (self-sufficiency does count!) and one does have to educate one's kids, and so on... but with consciousness.
Yep, everything matters and it's up to us to determine the relevance, the necessity and the ethical framework of everything we undertake. It also means taking on new values at certain moments and discarding others when necessary.
DeleteTeaching children is important since they need to learn many basic life skills, but also teaching the value of critical and personal thinking is necessary. Not pushing one's own views, but explaining how things work or don't work in life and ultimately leaving the child to figure things out for itself. In the end, respect is the most valuable and most useful quality you could teach a child.
