The Phantom Spray Painter
For some time now, an artistically inclined individual has been leaving spray paintings around our suburb. I first noticed these a couple of months ago, when rats started appearing in strange places, with a particular preference for letterboxes and electricity switchboards.

Altogether, I've counted about 12 by now, mostly in the area around our shopping centre. Soon afterwards, a number of (self-?) portraits were left behind, which I thought were rather good actually.

The next item of artistic expression were cats, each bearing tulips (I think). Why tulips? Who knows, but they were rather funny...

Lastly and most recently, the rats returned, now carrying a signboard with them, with some message for unsuspecting passers-by. This one was left on the side of a fish stand.

I like it when people create art like this. A kind of running joke, for those who care to see. Actually, I find graffiti quite good sometimes and can't always understand the fuss made (except when they're in bad taste or in very conspicuous places I guess).
I wonder what's coming next? Keep well...

Good morning bart!
have a look here:

Failing to see the link between cats and tulips! Perhaps I should ask my cat!
Those are cleverly designed, very artistic... I love the "Best Fish In Town" with the peace sign.. Very cute
Have a great day Bart!
I agree with you about graffiti. It's often interesting or beautiful or humorous, but there are some places that probably ought to be kept free of it.
I especially like the cat with tulip because it's puzzling.
does your daughter have an interest in mystical or spiritual things? (perhaps a little early to ask at her age, but i'm curious...)
Absolutely, Bart. In her natural way, she's been always talking about fairies and elves and such. She incorporated them into her stories. (She always tells little stories just to amuse her own self.)
When she was younger this connection was even more definite.
These are brilliant! I agree with your observation on graffiti - I hope you get to see more "stories" from this particular graffiti artist!
i'm often impressed by street art... some graffiti are truly fascinating...
glad you found and shared these :)
Ηλιογράφος, thank you for the link... it seems to have been an impressive happening :-))
i think your cat would have a lot of explaining to do helen, although a friend of mind mentioned offline that instead of a tulip it could also be a sceptre, with the hidden meaning of "cats rule" or something like that...
there's a lot of ambiguity and hidden meaning here bruno, i think the idea was very well thought out indeed...
graffiti's great zilla, as you say in the right place and at the right time... there used to be a prominent one near the train station some years ago with the comment "and, wage slaves, have you slept well?" which haunted me for years
i'm glad your daughter is so natural in her doings szélsőfa, as you write she shows a great degree of intuitivity many children and most adults lack...
i sure hope our graffiti artist continues atyllah, but he/she's been pretty quiet recently... i find graffiti is often a very confronting art form, closer to daily realities than most others...
i'm glad to have been able to share these, polona... street art is often strange and personal, yet recogniseable for most people...
They're rather lovely aren't they. They seem very well thought out. I love the last one. I wonder what the meaning is?:-)
I like graffiti if they are good....I think was boom all over the world 15-20 years ago about graffiti...now blog is IN :)
Love them! When I was in Paris I saw the most wonderful graffiti, it really made my eyes crave more, and I liked the way that the artists didn't graffiti up the churches and old beautiful architecture, they seemed to go after the trains and newer buildings that didn't have the character of the old. They seemed to add character to the newer not so beautiful structures.
the artist put a lot of time and effort into new creation i suspect, lane... i don't know if there's a real meaning entangled in the images, i personally think it's a kind of running joke to keep the "viewers" on their toes
yes patricija, graffiti has changed a lot in recent years and although i liked how it used to be there is a lot of good work nowadays too...
some of the best work i've seen has been on trains, alongside the tracks and on the sound barriers along the expressways fineartist... i haven't been to paris for a very long time but from what i remembered was that most of the graffiti was indeed concentrated in the newer areas and around the major throughfares in the city...
