Sometimes I wonder what's real and what's illusion. Things that are so straightforward at first sight, often aren't. The human mind tries to form order and recognition in the chaos, creating patterns which are more our own creation than that they existed in their own right originally.
Take a look at this fractal and let me know the very first impressions you had of it. I had my own impression, but I'm curious to know what your reaction is (please don't scroll down until you've taken in this image).

OK, just to be a real smartypants, here's the same image, in a different perspective...

Have fun, keep well...

I saw an Ascension scene. Inverted, I saw Darth Vader with an eclipse over his head.
(The coffee is still brewing, Bart. Maybe I should come back after I've dosed up?)
I see JOY exploding in a person's body. The round part is the stomach.
I see an angry little man in the first image, the second looks like an alien with a halo... Okay, I've been with weird people today :P
In the top picture I saw some sort of space emperor presiding over his world ... but in the second it didn't look like that at all. Probably, the longer you look at it the more things you'd come up with.
hey, where's my comment?
no matter, i wasn't particularly original anyway, it seems... these things look vaguely alien to me but the title of the post got me thinking...
That's so freaking weird that Zilla saw Darth Vader! I'm listen to my iPod right now and Star Wars came on--
I see what Han Solo sees just before going to light speed.
Ah, the power of suggestive music.
it's interesting to note that each commenter saw a person figure in the image in the first instance... i saw it too and found it a little frightening in the first instance, an evil emperor indeed presiding over the fires he controlled... the second image was a little subtler for me, it was a small figure walking down a causeway to an opening to something new...
zilla, now you mention it i can see what you saw too... you are excused concerning the time of day, my mind is decidedly foggy early in the morning...
thank you for the inspirational insight bruno, it was also one of my first impressions before i cropped the image to what it was, a crystal or jewel filled with light and joy giving rise to a stream of colour and form...
like i said liesl, you see what your mind wants you to see or what you can relate to, residues of the day let you see something related to what you're feeling...
well said helen, often, when you look longer you see all sorts of patterns and forms arising which your imagination creates for you, perhaps part of the ordering process we all use on a daily basis...
hmm, strange polona... your first comment seems to have been eaten by the blogmonster or something ;-) perhaps it was the figure you saw in the first image :-))
absolutely ange, suggestion does strange things to one's mind but it's an interesting coincidence you both had darth vadar on your minds... i only saw it after zilla mentioned it but i was a little handicapped because i'd already been staring at it for ages...
thank you all for your input here, i appreciate this little exercise because it confirmed my suspicions, that we instinctively like to look for human forms in some way or other... i've tried other fractals with similar results and other patterns in nature which similarly became human in abstract ways...
keep well...
I had my son (11+) and my daughter (8+) and me (38+) when looking at the fractals.
Here are our responses:
FIRST PICTURE
Son:It is the Sun. A positive picture.
Daughter:Fairies dancing around a nice-looking fire. Positive.
Me:An evil queen. Menacing picture.
SECOND PICTURE
Son: The Goblet of Fire from HP. *laughs* A submarine attacks a ship. A negative picture.
Daughter: A strange goblet with sparks around.
Me:A gate into a promising land is opening. Positive picture.
Now, here's something to analyze, Bart :))
you've said a lot here in your comment szélsőfa, the children have displayed a lot of their imagination and so did you actually :-))
does your daughter have an interest in mystical or spiritual things? (perhaps a little early to ask at her age, but i'm curious...)
keep well...
I'm blind commenting so I'm not influenced by what everyone else saw...
I see a magnificent being descending from a spacecraft radiating power and beauty, getting ready to travel down the magic blue carpet. He/she's wearing love beads.
The second image is a huge blue tongue, and it's coming out of the mouth of a large green gecko, the pink is slobber.
Now to read what the others said.
an interesting and detailed explanation of your vision fineartist, you have the advantage of a trained eye in visual matters... i'm glad you commented "blind" since i think people are also influenced by what others have said occasionally, quite often untintentionally...
liked the bit about the love beads, it made me feel young again for a moment :-))
I saw a wizard radiating power, standing on top of a bubble empire.
you saw more or less the same as i saw first ali, i found the image to be a little frightening at first but then realised that it was all in my mind... in a way i was making things more difficult for myself than necessary...
